When things turn sour
Sometimes web development contracts do not go to plan. This can be due to clients not understanding how websites are designed and developed, or they are far too eager in having input of development which hampers progress.
Recently we were contracted to design and develop a website, and while the client signed the contract and made payment, their interference in the development progress caused a lot of unnecessary issues to arise. Therefore, we terminated their contract as it was apparent they didn’t have a clue as to what we needed to do for their site to be feature rich and functional.
While it is important for a client to be a vital part of the website development, it is not possible to work with one that questions every single stage of development. - Basically, if a client thinks they know so much about web standards, accessability, world viewing habits on screen resolution, they why the heck are they contracting web designers and developers to do work if they know so freaking much?
Some clients insist on too much control that they actually can ruin the best efforts of the web developer to bring their site to finalisation. In these rare cases, it is in everyone’s best interest to part ways!
When clients start harassing you with late at night on weekends because they don’t like being told they are difficult to work with, then it is time to take a reality check and get them out of your life and business.
Was it worth paying back every damn cent? You bet it was!
We spent at least 20plus hours on their site and they continued to complain about elements which were still in development and testing. While we are out of pocket for work done, we have kept our sanity.
We are fairly intuitive with our clients needs and requirements, unfortunately there will be some who just don’t get it, and there will come a time when you just have to say them “You’re Fired”!

Create a Community
Creating an online community is a way to build website traffic. For example, if you have a website that sells widgets, then a community forum is ideal for ‘widget’ buyers to come and discuss the pros and cons and share ideas and other interesting information relating to this.
While communities can be time consuming to ‘police’ they certainly have a place on the Internet.
